YouthBank UK

About Us

YouthBank UK is a young person led charity working with 80 local YouthBanks involving more than 1600 young people.  Local YouthBanks provide small grants to projects led by young people, to help benefit the community. YouthBank is unique in that it is young people themselves who make decisions about how local YouthBanks are managed and run as well as who gets the money.  Our Trustees are all young people aged between 16 and 30.

YouthBank UK is not a grantmaker itself but supports young people in local YouthBanks by providing accredited training, learning resources, opportunities to share good practice and regular policy and funding updates.  The purpose of YouthBank UK is:

• To secure the provision of opportunities for young people to make grants to other young people to bring about positive change in their own communities.
• To promote and support high quality learning opportunities through YouthBank activity, to help young people reach their full potential.
• To sustain YouthBank UK as the leading advocate of young people-led management of resources, community action and decision-making.

But YouthBank is more than just a way of giving out grants – it is about supporting and training young people to enable them, through grantmaking and related activity, to benefit other young people and the community, as well as themselves.

YouthBank builds on young people’s skills and experiences to enable them to reach their full potential and to play a full part in their own communities.

In 2009/10, local YouthaBanks distributed £8.5 million in 2500 grants which benefitted almost 200,000 young people.
